Mexico’s president has proposed constitutional reforms after the U.S. designated six Mexican drug cartels as terrorist organizations. The government is now aiming to strengthen sovereignty protections.

The U.S. order, published on February 22, raises concerns in Mexico about possible military intervention, which officials strongly oppose. Reforms would also impose harsher penalties on foreigners involved in gun trafficking, as Mexico continues to push the U.S. to curb illegal arms smuggling.

Claudia Sheinbaum, President of Mexico: “The Mexican people will not accept under any circumstances interventions, interference or any other act from abroad that could be harmful to the integrity, independence and sovereignty of the nation.”

“What we want to make clear in the face of this designation is that we do not negotiate sovereignty.”

Thieves have targeted at least 10 freight trains in California and Arizona since March, stealing nearly $2 million in Nike sneakers. They cut air brake hoses to stop the trains in remote areas.

In January, one heist in Arizona totaled 1,985 pairs of unreleased Nikes, worth $440,000. Other thieves in 2023 took $612,000 worth of sneakers.

Authorities arrested 11 people in one case, recovering the stolen goods with tracking devices. A suspected ringleader was caught with a ledger listing stolen footwear.

The stolen merchandise is typically transported to California to be sold or offered for sale online via third-party Amazon and EBay resellers, according to a homeland security agent. Both Amazon and eBay said in statements that they have zero tolerance for criminal activity on their platforms.

Florida and Missouri have sued Target and Starbucks over DEI policies, citing fraud and discrimination. The lawsuits claim financial losses and illegal hiring practices.

The Justice Department is set to present a report on March 1 outlining potential criminal investigations into Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion related discrimination.

America First Legal has identified 45 companies, including Amazon, Nike and Disney, that may face legal action. Some retailers have scaled back DEI programs, while others, like Costco and Trader Joe’s, remain committed.

Andrew Bailey, Missouri Attorney General: “With Starbucks’ discriminatory patterns, practices, and policies, Missouri’s consumers are required to pay higher prices and wait longer for goods and services that could be provided for less.”

Starbucks spokesperson: “We disagree with the attorney general and these allegations are inaccurate.”

A judge in Michigan has sentenced Walmart shoplifters to wash cars in the store’s parking lot as community service. The free car washes will take place in March and April.

The judge expects 75 to 100 offenders to participate, hoping public visibility will prevent future theft. Walmart even designated a parking space for police due to frequent shoplifting incidents at the Grand Blanc Township store.

Judge: “I think it will be humiliating to be out there washing cars if you see someone you know.”

A new retail space in Beijing features funnel-shaped ceiling openings and framed structures to enhance natural light, ventilation, and visual depth.

The store functions as a showroom, café, and event venue, blending indoor and outdoor spaces with framed openings and a courtyard. A reflective water feature mirrors the sky and surrounding architecture, expanding the space’s atmosphere but can be drained for gatherings and product showcases.

To enhance the interior, the existing steel truss ceiling was modified with funnel-shaped openings of varying sizes, increasing the perceived ceiling height.

Black micro-cement flooring, beige stone, and minimalist textures create a cohesive, modern design. Movable louvers allow for adjustable privacy, while built-in furniture integrates into the architecture for a seamless layout.
