A British man has become the first person to run the length of Africa, covering over 9,940 miles in 352 days. Russ Cook faced a robbery and health scare during his journey but raised over $750,000 for charity.

Starting in South Africa and finishing in Tunisia, Cook’s trek spanned 16 countries, equivalent to running about 376 marathons. He documented his adventure on social media, amassing millions of views, and intends for his feat to inspire others to chase their dreams. 

The money raised will support the Running Charity and Sandblast, aiding young people facing homelessness and promoting awareness of the Saharawi people, a group in the Sahara desert that has been displaced.

Russ Cook: “I’m a little bit tired. I’m a totally normal bloke, so if I can do this, hopefully people can apply this to their own lives in whichever way they choose. For 99% of people, it’s not going to be running across Africa, but it might look like chasing their dreams a little bit more.”
